And The Birds Sang

(a small piece published years ago in the Chicago Chapter PTG Monthly Newsletter “Wippenpost”. This offered just for fun)…

“I have noticed that birds often like to accompany the sounds of tuning with their own song. Some of our studio rooms in Oak Park face a tree lined parkway. Shortly after getting into a routine maintenance tuning last week I noticed a sizable chorus of birds singing along with my every note.

As much as we who tune pianos like a quiet working environment this was a pleasant accompaniment to the Tuner’s Etude.

When I stopped to clean the inside of the piano and make a few minor repairs the chirping became subito piano. Then again at the unison tuning: da capo al fine!

What a joy to know that other creatures can find tuning to be a musical experience!”
