Douglas Strong, Mentor and Friend
1-13-1925 – 4-20-2011
Douglas Strong Head Piano Technician at Indiana University was the person who first taught me how to tune, regulate and repair pianos. I studied piano technology both in classroom and privately with Mr. Strong for the six years that I was an undergraduate and graduate student in Piano Performance at IU.
Mr. Strong was strict and thorough but most of all was generous with his time when working together on difficult issues related to understanding tuning and the piano as an instrument.
I visited with Mr. Strong many years later while visiting IU with my son and enjoyed talking with him again however briefly.
Teachers who are Mentors remain very special throughout our lives. This is true of Douglas Strong for me.
