Our customers include individuals, students, musicians, professional organizations, churches, civic organizations, schools and insurance professionals. We tune, repair, appraise, and service pianos in Chicago and the Chicago suburbs. Our Piano Appraisal Services for expert insurance recovery work are available throughout the United States.

Owner Biography
Jeffrey Cappelli, owner: Cappelli Institute of Music and Chicago Piano Service. Jeffrey’s history includes music education, piano technology, pedagogy and over four decades of comprehensive restoration of some of the world’s finest pianos.

Owner Biography:
Jeffrey L. Cappelli was born and raised in the Chicago area. He attended Oak Park River Forest High School, where he was a repeat winner of the Concerto Competition and the recipient of the Frederick Chopin Outstanding Musician award. He was also a repeat winner of the Society of American Musicians, Illinois State Music Teachers Association, Geneva competitions and a winner in the Steinway Piano competition. Jeff received a scholarship from the MacDowell Artist Society of Oak Park. Prior to college, Jeffrey was a student of his parents, Dr. Amo and Nancy Cappelli of River Forest, Mr. Alex Joseffer of Chicago and Dr. Donald Isaac of Northwestern University.
While attending Indiana University, he earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Piano Performance. There he studied with Dr. Karen Shaw and Michel Bloch. Jeffrey served as Associate Instructor (AI) of piano studies at both the IU and IUPUI campuses during his graduate studies. He studied Piano Technology with Douglas Strong and Steven Shaver while at Indiana University. Locally, Jeffrey has performed as soloist with the Oak Park and River Forest Symphony, at the Frank Lloyd Wright Unity Temple in Oak Park, IL, 19th Century Club, Cantigny concert series and in Benefit Concerts sponsored by the Cappelli Institute of Music for Ronald McDonald House, Northwestern University Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Center, Misericordia, St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, and for the Patrons of The British Museum in America.
Jeffrey began teaching privately in the Chicago area in1980, and soon after founded the Cappelli Institute of Music at 1053 Lake Street in Oak Park where he is Director. The Cappelli Institute of Music offers private music instruction for piano, vocal and instrumental studies.
Jeffrey is a Registered Piano Technician (RPT) in the Piano Technicians Guild and has served as President, Program Chairman and as a Director of Education in the Chicago Chapter.
Jeff enjoys being fully involved in piano tuning and repair services in Chicago and suburbs and is an aural tuner. He has worked as a Chicago piano technician since 1980.
Jeffrey was part of an education panel at Indiana University to discuss successful entrepreneurial pursuits and business development for music majors. He is Steinway Factory trained and has been a participant in Theodore Steinway Training Seminars at Steinway & Sons in New York.
