About Us

Our Legacy:

Douglas Strong, Head Piano Technician at Indiana University, was the person who first taught me how to tune, regulate and repair pianos. I studied piano technology both in classroom and privately with Mr. Strong for the six years that I was an undergraduate and graduate student in Piano Performance at IU.

Mr. Strong was strict and thorough but most of all was generous with his time when working together on difficult issues related to understanding tuning and the piano as an instrument.

I visited with Mr. Strong many years later while visiting IU with my son and enjoyed talking with him again however briefly.

Teachers who are Mentors remain very special throughout our lives.  Douglas Strong is that important to me.

“For some 40 years Jeff has “babied” my Baldwin SF-10 artist grand as an exceptional technician, and in recent years he has been instrumental in my return to study as an unparalleled teacher.”

A History Rich in Music Education:

Jeffrey Cappelli established the Cappelli Institute of Music in Oak Park, IL following his college experience where he studied piano performance and taught as an Associate Instructor of Piano at the IUPUI and Bloomington Indiana campuses.

His college years of study with Dr. Karen Shaw and Michel Block at Indiana University in Bloomington, and younger years as a piano student of his parents, Dr. Amo and Mrs. Nancy Cappelli, both noted music educators and professional pianists, and consequent studies with Alex Joseffer of Chicago, and Dr. Donald Isaac at Northwestern University positively influenced his musical future and further interests in piano pedagogy.
